Abstract

Pain during the active phase of the first stage of labor can affect maternal comfort and labor progress. The Rebozo technique and pelvic rocking are non-pharmacological interventions used to reduce labor pain intensity. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Rebozo technique and pelvic rocking in reducing pain intensity during the active phase of the first stage of labor. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 64 women in the active phase of the first stage of labor were assigned to either the Rebozo group (n = 32) or the pelvic rocking group (n = 32). Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney U test with a significance level of 5%. The results showed that both interventions significantly reduced labor pain intensity (p < 0.05). The Mann–Whitney U test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the two interventions (p = 0.026). Both the Rebozo technique and pelvic rocking were effective non-pharmacological interventions for reducing pain intensity during the active phase of the first stage of labor, with pelvic rocking demonstrating greater effectiveness than the Rebozo technique.
